I Never Would Have Thought
If some of your goals are feeling out of reach or if you feel like there’s no point in trying to have what you really want, give this exercise a shot. It's called I Never Would Have Thought.
I'll do it about me so you can see how it works.
In 1997 when I became a teen mom, I never would have thought I would become a lawyer.
In 2012 when I got divorced and went back to work after five years as a stay-at-home mom, I never would have thought in a few years I would be a nationally recognized expert in my field or I would literally write the book and the certification course on the topic.
In 2017 when I was promoted to the top of my firm, doing what I believed was my dream job, I never would have thought I was about to become so stressed and sick I spent every night dreaming of quitting.
In 2019 even though I was stressed and sick and sobbing into my wine glass at night, I never would have thought I would leave that job and start a new career as a coach.
I love this exercise because it challenges our current beliefs about ourselves.
You may be telling yourself right now you can't do something you want to do. You may not think it's possible. But when you look back at all of the things you've done and accomplished you never would have thought you could do, you see how capable you are when you decide to be.
Once you've completed this exercise for yourself, imagine you are the future version of you. What will you be adding to your I Never Would Have Thought list?
