How to Actually Get What You Want

Do you want to be able to ask for and get what you want?
The key is to make decisions based on the answer to “what do I want to do?” instead of “what do I think I’m expected to do?”
I know what you're thinking…
“I can’t just do whatever I want. I have responsibilities and obligations.”
Of course you do. I’m not talking about laying around and eating bonbons all day.
But here's where you're getting stuck. Lots of women - me and probably you too - were raised to put everyone else first, so you feel guilty about asking for, or wanting, anything at all. So you don't.
But you can ask for and get what you want. And say no to what you don't.
You can have…
A calendar that’s no longer jam-packed with energy draining commitments
A life that is structured around what you actually want to do, and
The ability to communicate your wants and desires clearly and effectively
And you can do it without becoming a selfish b!tch who doesn’t care about anyone but yourself.
Here's how -
You ask yourself, "what do I want to do?" and then do that.
It really is that simple. Because when you think about your answer, you do actually want to do things that aren't very much fun.
For example, at parent/teacher conference time you may decide that you want to sign up for conferences with your kids' teachers. Will it be the highlight of your year? Probably not. But you want to touch base and support your child(ren) academically.
But maybe you don't want to be on the committee that organizes the hospitality suite for the teachers during conference days. The only reason you'd say yes to that is out of obligation or feeling like you should.
So by asking "what do I want to do?", you would say yes to the first one and no to the second one. Even though at first glance neither one sound like a great time you actually do want to go to the conferences.

And here's the amazing part - those nos make space for the actual fun, enchanting and fulfilling stuff you really want to be doing. Or for time alone to do absolutely nothing at all. Without the guilt that usually comes along with it.
