Don’t Resist the Darkness

The Fall Equinox is this week. One of two days during the year where day and night are equal length.

If you look around everything, is constantly cycling from light to dark and back again.

The Moon moves from New to Full and then back.

The Sun sets at night and then rises again in the morning.

The Solstices represent the peaks of light and dark as they increase and decrease each year.

Life is the same way.

We move through periods of light and periods of darkness.

This is normal and something everyone experiences.

But it becomes a problem when you spend time worrying it's going to get dark. Or you'll be stuck in darkness forever.

This doesn't prevent the darkness or move you toward the light any faster.

What it does is keep you from enjoying the light.

Imagine if you spent all day worrying it was going to get dark that night. And then laying awake all night worried the sun won't come up in the morning. The Sun would still rise and set but your experience of both the day and the night would be worse.

Which is exactly what you're doing when you worry about anything. You don't prevent bad things from happening. But you do spend a lot less time enjoying and appreciating the good things.
