Be Better Than Your Best Excuse

How many times have you said to yourself, "maybe in another life"?

What you're really saying is you want something different for this life, but you don't believe you can have it. You've probably got all kinds of excuses...

  • My kids are too young.

  • I'm too old.

  • That time in my life has passed.

  • I need to wait until my career is more established.

  • I've never done it before.

  • I don't have time.

Any of those sound familiar?

Time for some real talk. All of those excuses are big, fat lies. And they're keeping you stuck while you wish for something different.

You can make a change or you can keep yourself stuck. Either way it's up to you.

If you're ready to change, stop believing those excuses. Each time you want something and tell yourself you can't because________________. Ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Why not?

  2. So what?

  3. What if it isn't true?

Let's say you want to go back to school or learn a new skill but you tell yourself you can because you don't have time. Ask yourself...

  1. Why not? Make yourself answer! Perhaps your answer is because you work full-time and have kids at home. Then ask,

  2. So what? Again, you have to answer. What about working full-time and having kids at home prevents you from doing it? List all of the reasons. Then for each reason ask,

  3. What if isn't true?

You'll be surprised at how quickly those big, fat lies fall apart under questioning!
