Why Are You Rushing?

This time of year often comes with a lot of stress and pressure.

You may feel as though you're rushing from one thing to the next with all of the work and to dos piling up around you.

I used to feel this way frequently. And not just at this time of year. I felt like I constantly had more to do, was under pressure to get it all done, and couldn't rest or take a break until I did.

I'm sure you can guess what that was like. I never rested. I never took breaks. I pushed myself harder and harder. Until I couldn't. My body starting breaking down and my health went downhill fast.

What I didn't know then was that I have an open Root center as part of my Human Design.

Having an open root center means your adrenaline is constantly running on high unless you know how to turn it off. Your natural state is to do more and more, believing you can't stop until everything is done. So you constantly rush around because you feel pressured to keep going.

This could be you too, if...

You're the go to person at work when an extra project needs to be managed.

Your actual job description is only a part of what you do because you've taken on more responsibilities.

You work late because you're always behind and there's so much more to do.

You never say no because you think you can make time for just one more thing.

On top of that, if you are around someone, like a boss or coworker, with a defined Root center, the feeling of pressure increases. The other person probably doesn't intend to rush or pressure you, but their presence causes your adrenaline to spike so you feel as though they are.

The open centers in your chart function as receivers. They pick up on the energy and influence of the people around you. It's one of the many reasons why understanding your unique Human Design is so helpful.

You learn the way you naturally respond in a situation so you can manage it better.

Now that I know I have an open Root center, when I start to feel pressured or rushed, I take a deep breath and remind myself that it's normal for me to feel this way. I tell myself that I'm not actually in a rush and there's no pressure for me to check everything off of my to do list right this second. It's not a problem that I feel this way. But I don't have to operate with my adrenaline on high.

I still check things off my to do list. But I'm healthier. I feel better. I take time to rest when I need it. And I choose where and how to spend my time and focus instead of feeling like I need to do it all.
