When I was a little kid we used to make May Baskets and leave them for our neighbors on May 1.
If you're not familiar with the tradition, you make a paper cone and fill it with flowers to leave on someone's porch or doorstep. The really fun part is that it's a secret - you ring the bell and run away so that the person who answers the door only sees the flowers.
I loved hiding around the corner waiting for the door to open and see the happy smiles on my neighbors' faces.
There's so much power and magic in small moments of delight.
Think about when you get those delightful surprises in your life:
You get a compliment from a stranger
You find $20 in the pocket of a coat or purse you haven't worn since last year.
You get the rock star parking spot.
They make your day better and you feel happier and lighter.
The good news is you don't have to wait for the unexpected. You can create these types of delightful surprises for yourself every day.
Here are just a few ideas - use them or come up with your own:
Write yourself an inspiring message and hide it inside a pair of socks to find later.
Schedule an email to send a month from now with a list of things you're proud of.
Stash some money in one of your party purses for some unexpected spending money on a night out.
Keep affirmation or oracle cards inside your desk for a quick boost during the work day.
Pay for flowers to be delivered to your house on a date of the florist's choosing.
These types of delightful surprises break you out of your typical schedule and bring you a burst of joy that instantly improves your mood and energy.
In coaching and in life it's easy to spend most of your time on the things that bring you down or hold you back. Even when you're working to make positive changes you may be looking at it from a lens of what you don't want. And there's so much value in that.
But there's also a lot to gain by simply creating more joy and delight in your every day.
As your coach I can not only help you release what no longer fits but also focus on adding in more of what does in both big and small ways.
Let's get started. Schedule a consult to get started so we can talk about working together.
During the consult we'll talk about what you're looking for and what's missing. I'll lay out a process to help you get there. And then we'll decide if we want to move forward. Either way, you'll get info about your chart and some strategies you can implement right away.
